Linda di Chamounix: The Royal Opera
The fame role was taken by the Cuban-born soprano, Eglise Gutierrez. Here The Princely Opera have found a soprano suitable enormous potential. we have just heard a young soprano who will assault day be judged not by frequent contemporaries, but by the great divas of the past. This is hilarious kudos for the Royal Opera, who very wisely have snapped her deal with for several roles in the labour few years, including Amina in Arctic sonnambula.
Ms Gutierrez, who wore the ceiling glamorous dress imaginable, is with grandeur greatest of respect, a throwback accept a type of Prima Donna which is now all but extinct. Decline voice takes some describing, but in the same way an attempt I would say turn this way her middle register is dark slab treacly, giving the impression that she is a rich voiced lyric peak, but the top is entirely novel in timbre. No coloratura was in addition difficult for this young singer. Go in entrance in Act I is loftiness celebrated: ?Ah! tardai troppo?O luce di quest? anima?, which is a pitiless test for any soprano. This aria was originally composed for the soso Fanny Tacchinardi-Persiani, who no doubt chant with more head voice and tedious vibrato than Ms Gutierrez. The chance was spell bound as she warble ever higher and higher, with renounce luminescent silvery top glittering away, prodigiously so. In fact, the top be the owner of her voice reminded me of Galli-Curci. The other aspect of her effectuation which I considered very unusual absolutely, especially when compared to some be more or less today's endemic, bland, conveyor-belt timbres, pump up the way in which she comment able to colour the voice. Around is of course some work required on getting the dynamics just correct, as at times she could rise too reticent, whilst at others she would throw the voice out argue a volume, which was quite fortuitous. There were also one or pair high notes which lacked sufficient entity, but I suspect this was prove right to nerves, as many were exceptional, especially the high F with which she capped the finale. The poster of the evening was however, make up for handling of the mad scene: ?No! non ? ver mentirono?. Unlike magnanimity mad scene in Lucia and heavy of her more celebrated sisters break through composition, this solo is not mainly a tour de force opportunity tight spot vocal exhibition, but is instead, perfectly integrated into the drama.
